No Prison Break Spin-Off Planned

April 15, 2009 by Nikki Katz

416_SunshineState-Sc17_0051.jpgIn yesterday’s conference call, Matt Olmstead also chatted about the originally proposed Prison Break spin-off.

“There’s no plan for a Prison Break spin-off. We did a script for what would be establishing a character in season three,” Olmstead said in answer to the question from The Deadblot News. “A female character, and then spinning her off into, essentially, a female prison show.

And there were a couple hurdles involved. We couldn’t get the actress, the strike happened, and when we came back the show was in its last season. You know, The Sarah Conner Chronicles wasn’t doing that great and there’s a host of reasons why that idea, that project, cooled. Who’s to say if it could get a spark again? I’m not counting on it. You know, my days aren’t based around it, but for me the show is done.

Matt said there is nothing in the stages, and although it is not officiall dead, it’s not likely. “It’s on the ground, leg is twitching, but there is still a heartbeat perhaps.

Prison Break Two Hour Series Finale

PRISON-BREAK-SEASON-4.jpgPrison Break
Season 4 Finale
Spring, 2009
Spoilers

Kristin with E!Online has some news on the two hour series finale and it is NOT to set up the stage for a spin-off.

The Prison Break creative team is finally making that much-discussed two-hour wrap-up film.

The two bonus eps are titled “The Old Ball and Chain” and “Free,” and they take place a couple of days after the events of the season finale. A studio source tells us exclusively that they’re “a self-contained Prison Break adventure in which Michael faces the most challenging break ever.” And yes, Gretchen is involved, but so is the rest of the Prison Break cast you know and love.

I don’t know, part of me still hopes for a spin-off!

Prison Break - Episode 4.23: The Old Ball and Chain - Casting Call

Episode 4.23: The Old Ball and Chain
Airs: Spring, 2009
Casting Call

After reading this, with all the women inmates, I’m wondering if this is establishing the set-up for a Cherry Hill spinoff. Thoughts?

Federal Agent Todd Wheatley
Late 30s, no-nonsense, condescending and smug, he has a strong, intimidating presence. Wheatley is determined to thwart Michael’s every move, and always seems to be one step ahead.

Daddy (Female)
This tough, powerful, older inmate at Miami-Dade Women’s Prison runs the motor pool detail and has fashioned a family for herself on the inside. Known as “Daddy,” she’s a stern but fair “parent” and “husband” to a select group of female prisoners. She offers a new inmate protection and gang membership. Daddy also has influence over certain guards.

Warden Alice Simms
In her 40s, “an insecure bureaucrat with higher aspirations who’s using the job as a ‘tough on crime’ resume builder,” she is the Warden for Miami-Dade Women’s Prison. Worried about the public embarrassment should her high profile prisoner manage to escape under her watch, she refuses to allow visitation.

Exec Producers Talk More on Prison Break Series Finale & Possible Spin-Off

January 14, 2009 by Nikki Katz

PRISON-BREAK-SEASON-4.jpg
Prison Break executive producer, Matt Olmstead, opened up to EW about the decision to end the series this year. He also says that we WILL get an extra two hours of the show that they might spin like a TV movie!

There was “nowhere to go beyond this season,” Matt says and he didn’t want the show to become a parody of itself. When he speaks about the May finale, Matt spills that “There will be deaths.

So what about this two hours of additional filming? Olmstead says that the have filmed a couple of extra segments that he says “address a couple of other storylines [and] can play as a standalone [movie].” Hmm, a Love Story perhaps?!?!?

Executive producer, Dawn Parouse, also weighed in on the potential Prison Break spin-off. “I would love to do a show about a women’s prison. It would have to be a fresh start — if not by us, then somebody.

Prison Break Spin-off Scoop!

January 10, 2009 by Nikki Katz

414_JustBusiness-Sc5-6-7_0111.jpgRegan Jay Licciardello (Gretchen’s daughter Emily) recently chatted with The Monitor about her role on Prison Break and commuting to Los Angeles from Texas. (Thanks Sandra and Stephenie for the tip!)

While filming her very first episode, the Prison Break crew was nervous about the guns and violence on the show being exposed to Regan in too harsh of a way. “They were very tender with her, telling her not to be afraid of being held hostage,” Regan’s mother, Bonnie said. But the crew quickly learned that Regan was a tough Texan whose dad is an avid hunter and often keeps a gun by his side. “She said, ‘Are you kidding me? I sleep with guns!”

There’s also some hope from Regan and her mom that the uncomfirmed Prison Break spinoff is a go. “They’re sending Gretchen to prison. There’s a line in the last episode (the series’ winter finale), where Lincoln says ‘If you don’t talk you’ll get to see your daughter again,’” Bonnie said. “So we’re hoping that happens and we get a chance to be in that.

Check out more of the article and some cute pictures of Regan on set!

Prison Break Spin-Off in the Works!

July 15, 2008 by Nikki Katz

We’re now getting the latest scoop from the Fox TCA - and it seems that a Prison Break Spin-Off is definitely in the works!!

Matt Olmstead says that he and coexec producer Zack Estrin are right in the middle of rewriting the Prison Break spinoff. “We are finishing the script,” Olmstead told Kristin. “Then we’ll cast it, and then we’ll hopefully shoot it and get it on the air.

The strike upset the original plan to introduce Molly and they couldn’t get their dream picks to move to Dallas, so Olmstead said the move to Los Angeles will help with the casting.

Estrin added, “The new show will be more like CSI Miami is to CSI and less a spinoff, because it will be a new character altogether.

And the notion of someone breaking out of prison may be an element, but it is not going to be the focus of the show.

It’s not an escape format, at least in the beginning,” Estrin says. “It’s like an undercover format. Someone who was being used inside for information to find things out and if anyone finds out what she’s doing, it’s a big, big problem. So it’s more of like a Departed format. We don’t want to do the same thing with breasts. There would be a different vibe and a different drive to the show. More like, ‘You don’t know who to trust.’

Thoughts?

More Chat on Sarah Wayne Callies and PB Cherry Hill!

April 3, 2008 by Nikki Katz

Matt Mitovich quickly confirms Sarah Wayne Callies‘ Return and discusses the impending possibility of the Prison Break spin-off, Prison Break: Cherry Hill!

More on Sarah Wayne Callies’ Return to Prison Break Season 4

March 27, 2008 by Nikki Katz

Kristin (from Watch with Kristin at E!Online) had the chance to chat with Matt Olmstead regarding Sarah Wayne Callies’ return to Prison Break 4!! Lucky duck.

Some key points:

  • We’ll get to find out what happened to Dr. Sara via some fast-paced flashbacks.

  • Michael and Sara will get some lovin’.
  • Season 4 is planned to be 22 episodes.
  • There will be some myseries to solve.
  • They are still contemplating Prison Break: Cherry Hill.

Here’s the interview:

I’m so glad to talk to you about this because we literally get floods of emails about Sarah Wayne Callies and her character Sara Tancredi. “Sara, Sarah, save our doctor, oh my god we miss her so much,” so there’s some seriously happy people out there right now.
Good.

Sarah Wayne Callies, the actress will be back, but does that mean Dr. Sara Tancredi be back? Is it really her evil twin? What is this all mean?
No, she’s the real deal. Sara Tancredi is back.

And it’s in the present day? It’s not a season entirely in flashback—she’ll walk in the door, and she joins the story in progress?
Season four is jumping-forward, hit-the-ground-running storytelling. But we are dropping back, in flashback, and explaining how the characters got to where they are and the situation with her, certainly.

So by the middle of the season you’ll be caught up, story-wise?
We’ll be caught up sooner than that. It’s not like a 50/50 thing where it’s half present-day, half in flashback. The flashbacks are much more economical, and you’ll get it fairly quickly. There are some mysteries that we’re going to extend out, but it’s not going to be the bulk of the season.

Now, internally are you planning season four as a 22-episode season?
Yes.
