Prison Break
Episode 4.01 & 4.02
Airs: September 1, 2008
Thoughts & Rating
Okay now that some of you have seen the first episode (and some of us are dying to watch it) – it’s time for your thoughts.
I personally thought the first episode was VERY rushed. I couldn’t quite get into what was going on. I would have loved more backstory on how Bellick and Sucre got back to the United States. I was very confused on how everyone got thrown into jail (especially Mahone) and I hated that Mahone’s family died. The MiSa scenes felt very rushed and it took Sara that long to show Michael her scars? I almost felt like the trailers were better than the actual episode itself!
Once we got into the second episode, I enjoyed it more. I like the gang working together to get the card, and seeing how they move forward. The promo for next week looks incredible, so I’m still holding out hope!

Share your fave moments and least favorite moments below!

Episode 1 was definitely the best episode of the series. I loved the MiSa moments, even though Im not a MiSa fan hahaha.
Episode 2 was good I guess xD
I REALLY wish they didnt kill mahones family! GRRRR
Least favourite moment: Death of Pam/Cam.
Did other stuff happen in the episode? Oh. I didn’t notice.
Ugh, I had no idea Pam & Cam were going to die. I was actually shocked when it happened. That was my LEAST favorite.
Most favorite? Seeing Sara’s perfectly attached head (and seeing Michael kiss it!), laughing at Bellick with his mom, and hearing Sucre say “PAPI!!” again!
And, I just don’t know where T-Bag’s new all-time low of eating someone falls into the mix…ew.
JUst like everyone, can’t believe what happened to them, I feel sorry for Mahone. Besides that, I had to wipe my tears when I saw Michael and Sara, snif.
pd: did anyone notice Sara was barely dressed when they got shot? My personal theory is that they were going to “play guitar hero” (second kiss drop my mouth to the floor) but she got freaked out, porbably by him touching her back….
I almoust forgot, thank God for internet and especially thank you guys for sharing the eps inmeditely….U rock!!!!
Great 1st episode.
I didnt like the way that Wistler was killed.
But the re-uniting with sara was very fast.
Thankfully!
I dont mind her being in the show, but to make a how revolve her, will not be good.
I seriously liked watching the bit of gretchen pleading for her life. (I went and watched it again!) Especially since in the third season, she said she was prepared to die. (Lincoln crashes into the van, to rescue LJ, but is forced to leave LJ with Gretchen. Body bags were left behind. That scene.)
Oh, and some nice acting from William Fichtner. Loved the way that he threw a fit at Bellick for the maid removing the device
Pure gold.
And bellick is still his “Weak, pathetic” self. I want the Bellick from Season 1 back. The one that is willing to take charge.
Also – cover him up! Geez!
I do not wish to she his “body” wobble as he waves to his mother in the car. Urgh.
Robert Knepper is classic though. He is awesome. He has always been my favourite character, and still is. Goes by his own business, and then something triggers something, and he turns from horrid, to genious, or kind to your worst nightmare.
Oh, and all secret service agents do stop their “Im a cold blooded killer” act at some point. I wonder when this new one will too
He is just like the rest though at the minute. Gets the job done.
And I like the way they got rid of the tattoo. Now maybe the show will have more of wentworth half dressed, to help bring the girls into the show again…
Overall, the plot is now back. Keep it! The show is full of stories. Seasons 1 & 2 were brilliant at this. Season 3 felt like it was enough for 1 episode, but they dragged it over 13. They felt empty.
Season 4 feels much like Season 1.
We are getting to know the new characters imediatly, like S1, and the story has meaning, like S1 & 2.
Although I was much youger (14) when I started watching PB, and was hanging off the edge of my seat waiting for what will happen next, getting all anxious about the next episode. Now im older (18), its not quite the same… I dont know if that is me being older, and more accepting, or wether it is because the show isnt leaving good enough cliff hangers.
I know that they need 5 more of those cards. That will alst for another 8~10 episodes. Depending on how the writers make it go.. EG, is it getting boring now, or can we make it stretch?
So thats the next few episodes I would guess. Then, after that, they will be moving into decoding the contents, and then using it against the company.
But, I am waiting for S4E03, but im not off the edge off my seat yet.
Lets wait and see
Gah..
sorry abotu the last post being so long.
I just kept typing, and being interrupted with MSN…
Didnt realise how long it got until I posted it
First episode should have been two. Felt so rushed i didn’t like it as much as i would have if they took their time.
Episode 2 was back in pace, but hmmm.
I dunno.
Well, it sucked that Whistler was shot. I wished that he was the mastermind behind all of this, but, considering that the actor was cast in another series, they had to do something about his character. But that was unexpected. Did you observed that a fraction before he is shot in the head, he closes the eyes before the hole in the forehead explodes? (a little bad acting, he was closing his eyes before that)
LOL Monster…yeah it was long…but we all understand : ) haha
Anyways, I can’t believe that Mahone didn’t tell his wife she needed to go hide or something…but the compant would of found them anyways i guess
In a way this seems to have the whole fake death scene written all over it maybe??
I agree seeing Gretchen in pain was like that’s right, karma is a biatch!
They kinda left us hanging about where LJ and Sofia are???
Isn’t the new agent in the compant from Grey’s Anatomy?
Oh and I also agree that things that happened in the first episode seemed rushed…but I mean with the writer’s strike shortening season 3…and the fact they have sooooo much to cover in season 4 it’s understandable that they had to not draw things out like
Once episode 2 started though I think it got better!
Thank you to all who are responsible in making this show happen!
Just watched it back again, and it was all going well but there were some parts which i really didn’t like.
SUCH AS.
When one scene ends and the charaters are like “We need to do this etc.” and the very next scene is them doing it. Time is just merging together and there is no real sense of time in it whatsoever. More like a montage of events.
ALSO.
The way they introduced Sucre and Bellick back to the gang. Would have been good to get some shots of them being arrested and taken by the FBI “Whats this all about?” etc.
ALSO.
The tattoo removal, its like..
“Hows your pain threshold?”
*cut to tattoo removal*
*cut to michael outside after the procedure looking totally fine like, “Ahh thats much better”*
IT ALL HAPPENED WITHIN THREE MINUTES!! WTF?!
Could have raised the issue of the tattoo in a later episode when we actually saw him topless, just didn’t seem necessary at this point to jump right in there.
Otherwise, they just needed to devote more footage to certain events to build them up a bit.
But i enjoyed the pacing of the 2nd episode, but i think i would look forward ALOT more to future episodes if they took their time with the first episode.
They let me down.
Well well well, I have to give it to the wonderful writers of Prison Break, they sure do know how to reinvent a series. This season seems to be more fast-paced, I love how they are a ‘team’ and that michael must formulate plans to recover all the cards. T’Bag finds one of them in that locker, and later he’ll attempt to sell it. It’s too bad that Pam and Cam had to go, but this gives Mahone an out, he does not have to live in the end. I also knew that Whistler was going to bite it, they needed him to stretch the show last year, and now they’re done with him. The funny thing is though, it looked like he got shot from in front, not behind where Wyatt was…
Using Michael’s brilliance to break in rather than out is an extremely authentic and realistic dynamic to the show. It’s “a little of the old, mixed with the new.” Meaning, people still need Michael for his Genius, but they’re just using it in a new way. I DO NOT TRUST Don Self, He is being used by the company somehow, some way. I just don’t see the motivation for him. Michael Rappaport is a great actor, but there is an underlying agenda similar to the way they presented Mahone in S2. That’s it for now, will chat later.
On a further note, regardless of what they do with the characters, this show needs to be appreciated by everyone who watches it. Judgement shouldn’t be made so harshly about some of the events that have occured. If you love the show, then you should accept it for what it is and what it was. Just like when you love somebody, you accept them for who they are, the good qualities, and the flaws. My love for this show is unconditional, and it grows with every episode I watch.
I agree that the first ep felt rushed but I think it was necessary to get the show going in the new direction. Awesome epsiodes though
!

-HATED that Pam & Cam were killed
-Didn’t like the removal of Michael’s tatoo…. unrealistic & I feel like that should have been something Michael had to live with – a nice symbol of how he can’t go back to the way he was before he put himself in Prison, etc. tatoo
-Wouldn’t the company go after Sophia and LJ??
-I liked the way they are handling the M/S relationship – they are ‘together’ but you can see that there is a lot of individual issues they need to deal with
I think Sara has come back a very different character, very troubled – which makes things very interesting especially while trying to “start over” with michael. i thought that was sweet of her not wanting him to feel guilty or for her to blame him and her not wanting them to be together out of obligation but just because they love each other (thats not exactly what was said but thats the vibe i got from her as she said that)…i know im babbling lol sorry, i didnt think they were rushed, and i didnt think that sara should have showed him her scars sooner, thats a pretty nasty thing to show to the man you love knowing he blames himself. but at some parts i questioned sara, some parts felt almost like shes kind of influencing michael to make certain decisions – i dont know how to explain it but when i watched the episode again i didnt feel that way as much, everything she said was probably genuine shes just very troubled at the moment and thats what may feel “off” about her to me. if anyone can understand what im going on about can you see what i mean or did u think sara acted pretty realistically?
I was excited to catch up on new PB. Episode one was quite good enough. I agree that Wistler could have been a better help for the team but since he has to go on another show it’s safe to say he’s out. Also they’ve left a lot of big questions, how did the fire started? How did they got out of SONA into that van carrying Bellick and Sucre. How did Sucre teamed up with Bellick and left T-Bag on his own. LJ and Sofia were left to run nowhere. It’s a good thing that after the 2nd season there’s still Bruce who has sworn to protect Sara and hence he became the last resort for Michael to find Sara. I liked how they shortened Michael and Sara’a reunion, though it was short it still has the same RENDEVOUZ feeling way back in season 2. The wasy they played out Sara’s trauma and torture was brilliant. That Agent Self is like the superboss of them. He’s beginning to piss me off. He comes around scaring and giving threats to Mike and Linc when he doesn’t do anything.. Sucre’s reunion with his daughter was touching, and the highlight of the show was Cam/Pam’s death. Mahone carried his emotions pretty good. THe reunion amongs them were great point of the episode.T-Bag is still brilliant as ever. Gretchen pleading for her life was the nights must see. Bellick’s reaction when he sees his mom, priceless!
EPISODE ONE (4 out of 5)
EPISODE TWO
Finally! We are so back to the old Prison Break. It was a relief to see Michael at his best. Sara’s anger turned rage was brilliant. You could somehow predict that at this point all Sara wants is a hand on Gretchen. You could see why she’s into the whole revenge thing. And good enough she could contribute to the group. Mahone being helpful while trying to figure out why Michael asked him to join. One thing that sort of unexpected, is Michael sick? What happened in the bathroom, the sudden nosebleed. I liked how Michael is back trying to figure how things should work. He’s a real genius. I also like the little sweetness in Sara and Michael about starting over. Sort of gives balance to the series when everyone seems to die. The New Hunter gives me the creeps.
Episode 2 (5 out of 5)
The removal of Michael’s tattoos was a really big disappointment, my biggest about the show. THIS IS WHAT THE SERIES PREMIERED WITH PEOPLE!!! Michael’s tattoos were like the iconic symbol of his brilliance in season 1. Even though they didn’t mean much of anything since then, I always thought it was going to be something that michael was going to have to live with. I also don’t know if he even got them ALL removed. From what I saw, it just looked like he got some of the ’special’ tattoos erased. I mean, how is it even possible to remove tattoos that are on 1/3 of his body? Whatever… that sux.
I was actually busy for a second when Mahone went to his wife’s house, did they actually show Pam and Cam deceased? Or was it one of those things where you just know? Someone shed some light my way yeah…?
I don’t know that they actually said Pam & Cam were dead, but when Mahone got to his house, the cops wouldn’t let him go in. They kept saying, “You don’t want to go in there, you don’t want to go in there,” and “I’m sorry.”
Yeah, the tattoo removal (and the ridiculousness of how quickly Michael was up and running around afterward with like, not so much as a grimace) was a huge disappointment to me, too. That tattoo was like a character all itself, and so important to the birth of this series. It’s sad they got rid of it.
I’m going to say this, and I know it may sound ridiculous to some, but oh well.
For a crazy end to this season, I think somehow Sara should get caught for something and thrown into prison where, yours truly Michael Scofield, will engineer yet another daring prison break.
Kinda corny huh? So what…I can dream can’t I…
I hated the first episode, as my 2 favourite characters got screwed. Whislter died, and mahones family got killed brutally.
the second episode was just amazing! it was packed with action, and no bit was boring.
i do find it a little convenient that sona burnt down though.
i dont like mike with sara. he is to soppy, and thats not his character.
i really like roland. hes a really cool character!
I also thought the episode seemed rushed. I would have a little more suspense with the MiSa reunion, although it was so nice to see her. I also didn’t like how Mahone’s family died, wouldn’t WYatt have waited for alex. Also what about LJ and Sophia…really just LJ. Isn’t linc worried about him. I also like like how complex sara is although I thought their talk by the water was stupid. I still enjoyed it a lot and the next episode looks great.
I absolutely love this season its amazing feels like its back 2 season 1 again!! I loved Sara and thought she was sooooooo good in that her performance was soo real and heart renching I really feel for her!! shes soo broken!
I love these 2 eps!!
i think that although episode 1 seemed rushed, it was still a good episode, and answered many questions. so many exciting things to happen tho, linc vs mahone:P micheals nosebleeds, mahine is gna crackup bout his family and wyatt looks terrifying!
bt one thing i cant get out of my head is mikes convo wid sara, where she says somthing bout the man who fights scylla sacrifices 6 of his men!!! thats scary!!! does anyone fear this could be a plot?
@dean
I think it’s safe to say that Sara’s reference to the six of his men, has to do with there being six men all carrying a copy of Scylla. I may however be wrong.
Although I liked ep. 1 I had a feeling that everything happened really quickly.
I didn’t like the fact that suddenly everyone started getting arrested just because the writers couldn’t find another way to bring them all together.
I didn’t like that Wyatt killed every single person he had a scene with (expect Padman and Gretchen in some way).
I loved the MiSa scenes!!
I’m glad that Sara doesn’t think that Michael is responsible for what happened to her and tries to make him not feel like this.
Roland is funny!
Bellick was hilarious when he saw his mom!!
I don’t know why but I don’t like Linc at season 4.
i think they should do like what they did in season 1 “brothers keeper” and “fill in the dots” that are missing from the end of season 3 to the begining of season 4. they should show SONA callapsing and how everybody ended up where they are in season 4.
By the way… isn’t it strange that grechen said that sara ran away… but in flashback sara is watching the other girl die? just thought i’d mention it!
somebody comment back PLEASE!!!!
i forgot to add that…dosn’t it piss you off that we spend all of season 3 trying to figure out who Whistler is. and just like that, he’s dead! now we will never know(granted, they did try to tell a little bit about him, but thats not enough). i think once all of the cards are collected, season 4 will be much better. they pretty much told what the next 10-12 episodes are about by saying they have to get 5 more cards.
i just want a more realistic plot. this isn’t realistic like season 1 and season 2. i would like to see michael, link, LJ, and sofia trying to start a life with some kind of twists and turns along the way.REALISTIC(the way PB used to be)
did anyone else knowtice how HORRIBLE the writing was for the first 2 episodes! they should have taken the first 2 episodes and streched them into like 4!
yeah i was ticked when they killed whistler after the big deal they made about him in season 3. when did sara watch the other girl die. i watched that scene 2x and didnt catch that. i loved the fast pace of the first episode – i agree that it gets the show rolling. and i loved themichael/sara scenes!
~Voula~
I personally believe that if someone broke out of a US prison, it’s only a matter of time before they get caught. I think it’s unrealistic if Michael didn’t get caught as soon as he stepped into Chicago. I’ve read countless articles about famous prison escapes and EVERY single person who escaped got caught some way or another.
I’m not starting anything, but I like that the writers are trying to be more realistic when it comes to stuff like that. Ok, maybe it’s not realistic that Whistler took a head shot from A HANDGUN…. when Wyatt was all the way across the street. !!!WHAT?!?!?
I never seen a girl get shot either. As for unanswered questions, and rushing the start of the season, well, PB seems to leave many unanswered questions, but EVENTUALLY they give us the answers. As for being unrealistic sometimes, well, it is TV., but everyone is intittled to their opinion. I dont think PB will ever be as good as season 1 or 2, but I am one fan that will continue to watch no matter what. As for Micheals nosebleed, apparently he has some sort of heath problem (I think his dad had something along the same line). Micheal does go to the doctor and apparently finds out what is causing his nose to bleed (as he will have more nose bleeds), so I guess that is when we will find out too. I will say, that in season 1 and 2 I couldnt wait to watch the next weeks episode (and read any spoilers I could in the mean time), but so far, while I have read some spoilers, I can wait patiently for next weeks episode.
As for killing Whistler, well, it isnt the first time that a main character gets shot in the season premier…..so while it was dissappointing, somewhat, I wasnt surprised at all. , but I must admit I was surprised about Mahones family, but I think that will set a stage for some major revenge from Mahone. I dont like the new FBI guy at all. Not beacuse of what he is making Micheal do, but personally, I dont like his acting, he just doesnt seem to suit the charater that he is playing, period, but that is just my opinion.
I kind of didn’t like Michael Rapaport’s acting at first either (is that the one you’re talking about?), but then after I thought more about it, I did. Rather than being all hardcore and wrapped up in a cloak of twisted professionalism, his character (and his acting) strikes me as being that of a man who’s tired, desperate, and throwing all caution to the wind in an attempt to finally bring down The Company. He strikes me as having a “regular guy” mentality mixed with all the knowledge of the government and The Company, and he’s ready to put an end to it all. And, rather than just tossing Michael & Friends into the wolves den and hoping for success, he’s sort of jumped in with them (re: visiting ol’ dude at the car lot) to help, too. I like him. So far, haha.
I don’t trust Don Self for some reason.. I don’t know what it is, but he has a hidden agenda like I said before on the other post I dropped in this blog. I agree with Alicia, that it seems like he’s been after the company for five years, very unsuccessfully and is making a last-ditch effort to bring them down with the aid of the company’s most recent enemies, Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows.
I can imagine a scenario at the end of the season where Michael and the remaining team did what they needed to do, and something goes wrong with Don Self, he turns on them somehow, I can see it. But I hope I’m wrong, the last thing Michael needs is another traitor.
…the last thing Michael needs is another traitor.
Amen to that!
Of course, that makes me think, too, that it could be just as disastrous if Don Self dies along the way, or gets killed before he gets to clear Michael & Friends, or something like that.
I have to agree that the show was rushed into 1 episode..and i agree with UnderMonster about the excitement and hanging off edge of my seat..they dont have that much cliff hangers..season 4 is okay but i rate season 1 =best….season 2 = great…and season 3 =here we go again and now season 4=kinda boring…why dont they all fly away to africa??
Although I was much youger (14) when I started watching PB, and was hanging off the edge of my seat waiting for what will happen next, getting all anxious about the next episode. Now im older (18), its not quite the same… I dont know if that is me being older, and more accepting, or wether it is because the show isnt leaving good enough cliff hangers.
I agree, if Self dies, I don’t think that anyone would put forth the effort to keep them out of Prison. I just don’t know exactly what his motivation is, besides that he ‘wants to bring down the company’, but there has to be more to him than that. I’m sure something will surface during the season that will make me either second guess my opinion on him, or put trust into him that he may actually be able to free Michael and Lincoln for good!!!!
loved both episodes but i agree the first was rushed a bit they was in l a then chicago then bk to l a felt 4 mahone after his family got merced by that new agent it was also good to hear that kellerman clock dong was bk every time that agent apeard but im a bit confused about weather whistler was a good guy or a bad guy pam and cam dieing was a shock tho and t bag is still as funny as ever i think this season will be great but i also think they should end the show after this season i also think that micheals illnes will kill him brain tumor i reckon love the show still always will
Whistler was a ‘good guy’, he just lied a lot. He was undercover as a company agent for 10 years and probably did a lot of horrible things to keep himself in it. When he burned the company agents for the card and killed them, it was clear that he had no problem killing. They portrayed him as a good guy/bad guy/ who the hell knows in S3. But when he and Gretch went on their ‘James Bond’ mission, he was clearly going to back-stab the company. He accidentally switched the cards when he was surprised by Michael too.
Even though he was supposed to be a ‘good guy’ Whistler was a killer, he had no remorse, even when Michael told him that Sara was dead, he didn’t seem like he cared. He IS the one who killed Tyge in S3, they just didn’t let you know it.
It was shocking, however, when his head pretty much exploded on primetime TV, then the close-up when they went to commercial. God!! why do they bring these actors in for only one season then kill them off??
Peter Stormare, Robin Tunney, Robert Wisdom, and Chris Vance all were main characters on the show for just one season. With the exception of Robert Wisdom (Lechero) all these characters died in the opening episodes of the following seasons. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
Personally, I think it’s more tragic when you’ve seen these characters and fallen in love with them over multiple seasons, and to have them killed off. So maybe it’s better that they got some of the killing out of the way. But it would be tragic if Mahone died, Sucre, even Bellick, because you’ve known these guys since the beginning. (Obviously it would shatter our whole world if they killed off Michael, or even Lincoln.)
jeeze… imagine being in whistler’s shoes in S4…
‘hey Michael and Mahone, I’m a good guy after all, I have this thing, I’ll show you come on…’
…..CLACK…. done…. Once again, the writers make somebody die in front of Michael.. To add onto the extreme amount of guilt he feels for all that has happened, as he is super sensitive when it comes to the suffering around him. Seriously, before Michael threw himself into Fox River, he had it made and never seen anybody die right in front of him. Since then, countless people have died in the presence of our Saint.. poor Michael..
SIERRA , to see the part where sara watches the other girl die… its in flashback, and Grechen puts a knife to the other girls throught. then sara has blood on her face. hope that helps.
if you have questions email me at dirtloveskatiephillips@hotmail.com
your right!! i didnt see that before, thanks for mentioning that – i cant believe i missed that. unbelievable, i must have been thinking about something else at the moment cuz its pretty obvious now that ive watched it again. well that makes things interesting. i wonder who that other woman was. i wonder how sara was able to escape. maybe after seeing that other woman get murdered she realized that she may infact be next and that was what motivated her to try and escape herself.
I want to know where the hell is Mari Cruze? Isnt Sucre caring about her whereabouts?
