Nick Santora - Season 3 Intentional Writing

by Nikki on April 4th, 2008

Nick Santora wrote a quick post discussing his pleasure regarding the positive feedback on Sara’s return. He also says that they intentionally structured some aspects of Season 3 in case Sarah Wayne Callies returned.

So I am glad people are excited about Sara coming back. If you go back thru Season 3 you’ll see that we intentionally did several things that would allow us to bring the character back if it was feasible production-wise. We saw an opportunity, the talented SWC was available and now we are going to have a fun time making a 4th season. Thanks for supporting the show. Best, Nick Santora.

I mentioned this in a previous comment. If Sara comes back Lincoln would be portrayed as a big galoot with little brains. How could Lincoln not make out Sara’s head in the box? He could tell if the woman in the mourge was not Sara’s corpse, but he couldn’t distinguish those same characteristics in a severed head? How can he not identify a woman he’s seen before and held pictures of? What a bonehead. Even so, Lincoln shouldv’e tossed the head into sona and after the inmates played soccer with it and McGrady scored a 3 pointer with her it would be in Micheal’s hands. Hey, he had a microwave… it could’ve been warmed up and he could imagine it was the real thing.

it’s nice and all that she is coming back even though i personally got used to her death.

But what i really want to know is if Paul Adelstein could come back. I mean there was no evidence he died in that van at the end of season 2.

If he comes back Prison Break would be ssooo much better.

I hope Nick Santora could try and get Paul back

Juan I wanted to address your comments and questions about Lincoln not being able to identify Sara truly in the box…
    1. The head of “Sara” was in very hot weather with no chemicals to preserve(lack of better words) the head. Dead bodies left in those types of conditions can start decaying within a matter of hours. So that would explain why it couldn’t be her head. Plus Lincoln only looked at it for a second. You could of it as he just assumed the
    worst.
2.The body that was at the morgue was kept in a cool environment(like most morgues) to keep the bodies “fresh” and to prevent further decaying of the body.

P.s. Juan with sick thoughts like playing soccer with someone’s head, maybe you should work for the company…if they were real

Sorry for the typo i meant to say you could try looking at it like he just assumed the worse, her head being in the box. If that were Michael he probably would of taken samples of DNA or something. Oh they are both sooo hot!

Mahmuda - I wish Paul was coming back, but I somehow doubt it with the Private Practice series!

Just addressing one of Juan’s comments: “Lincoln would be portrayed as a big galoot with little brains.”

Umm… I’m sorry, is that not the definition of Lincoln? It’s no accident he’s been referred to as a gorilla on at least three occasions… Let’s face it, Lincoln’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He’s more of an emotional fellow, governed by primitive feelings like rage…anger…rage… Yeah. Not to mention his total lack of compassion for anyone. He’s been very self-centred in Season 3. He didn’t even seem to care about Michael that much, only L.J.

Not a Lincoln fan, if you hadn’t noticed. Nothing against anyone who likes him, I didn’t mean to offend you. He was okay in Season 1, but I think it’s been downhill from there for him.

I think that Lincoln has been fed up with SOOO much emotions in season 3, i mean, if your son is being held captive by somebody like Gretchen, and your brother is locked up in a prison like SONA, i think you’re also gonna go ballistic when you see a decapitated head in a box. i think that Lincoln wasn’t really in his right frame of mind when he saw the head, he could quickly think it was Sara’s since he knows that they killed Sara already.

We just have to have a little more faith in the whole PB team. They can pull this off, they wanted to bring Sara back, and SWC accepted, which probably means that they have prepared something special for her.

We love SWC and we really are glad she’s back for PB’s 4th season :)

Paul didn’t die directly on-screen, so there’s always the possibility of him being alive. TPTB is very smart to “kill” off his character without the viewers seeing him being killed.

Bringing back Sara from the dead seems like a stretch, but hey, TPTB has always somehow manage to pull some tricks out of their bag. And I’m not complaining!

I’m sure that if Sara were to escape from the Company, who the better man to help than Paul Kellerman? I’m sure hoping for a cameo appearance by Kellerman. Gosh I miss K-man!

I have a good feeling about season 4 :) Just… have a little faith, yes?

Look im going to have to agree with Juan on this. When i heard Sara was coming back i started laughing. I personally dont think its a good idea. To show her head then let out that shes not is just stupid. Also, LJ was there when the apparant Sara had her head cut off, and he told lincoln “that bitch is crazy, she cut off her head”, HE SAW IT!!!! So now it tiwists the words on LJ’s mouth. I dont know, i know you cant really tell emotions when it comes to typing on emails or comments etc, but Nick Santora and the others, its obvious they are tyring to find an excuse to make us look like the idiots and them the smart ones.
the only thing i want in Season4 is for Sucre and Maricruz to get together and have there kid. Thats why iw ant Season 4!!!!

The untrusting part of me believes that the writers didn’t actually leave a space open for SWC, more like season three wasn’t up to par and there were holes in the plot line.

However, i’m happy she’s back and i really believe in the writers, i’m sure they’re got something great going on.

I mean, if they didnt then SWC wouldnt be back would she? She hardly seems like the actor to just take anyone old crap just, she’s not going to watch as her character is thrown into the trash pile of TV history.

ok “Carolyn Morton”, we know that sara is SUPPOSED to be dead, but maybe they decided to bring her back because alot of fans were angry that she got killed in the first place!!

  • Tom
    Apr 5, 2008 at 1:36 am

There was always that argument by people saying it wasn’t her head and she will be back, opposed by the people who were always saying “get over it, look at this evidence…” but there was always a flaw in the reasoning why she was dead. I.e. “I closed my eyes but i heard it”

I definately think they left that door open, i’m sure she was meant to be dead, but the writers were fully aware things might change so they left the details vague enough to bring her back if she wanted in, or if she didn’t, there was a fair amount of evidence to say she was dead.

    Yup.

Hey! Yeah I agree with you Tom! I think they made it purposly! They left the door open in case she want it and that’s it!! I think there will be such a big surprises on season 4! I can’t wait! I feel so sorry about Sucre, I hope he won’t stay on the entire season in prison!

I am new to PB, watching it via blockbuster online…I loved it… caught season 3 online too…. let me say this…michael and sara made season 1 and 2, season 3 was really good too, i accepted her death, but if it is true she is coming back, well, i welcome that too…..michael and sara have an onscreen chemistry that added to the storyline…it would really be a shame if they couldnt find a happy ending and still have a season or two of helping someone else PB…..

“Nick Santona you are such a bad lier man …”
that’s what I wanted to write.

  • SHE (Sara) IS DEAD!!! GET OVER IT ALREADY!!!
    Apr 7, 2008 at 3:07 am

1 - I just don’t know HOW the writers are going to make this CREDIBLE. I mean, come on, we’re NOT MORONS HERE… BY NOT RECOGNIZING it wasn’t really Sara’s head, Lincoln Borrows CONFIRMS that he is the STUPIDEST CHARACTER on TV. I don’t see HOW he and Michael CAN BE BROTHERS.

2 - ‘The Company’ needed Michael to break out Whistler, why would they fake Sarah’s death, which would motivate Michael TO NOT break out. They have NOTHING to gain. - It was her head. Simple as!

3 - You all say ‘LJ’s eyes were closed, it could have been anybody’. He HEARD Sara SCREAMING, he KNOWS her voice. Plus, HE COULD have opened his eyes at ANY SECOND, do you REALLY think ‘The Company’ would take that risk? THEY WOULDN’T KILL someone else in front of him because HOW COULD THEY BE SURE that he would close his eyes.

4 - I’m a Prison Break fan NOT a SWC fan, I really like her but this show was NEVER supposed to be a love story. This is a TV DRAMA and I want SUSPENSE and ACTION when I watch Prison Break. Plus, her death was WRITTEN VERY CLEARLY in season 3, the writers shouldn’t have written it that way if they wanted a chance for her to be back.

5 - There were many interesting characters who died WAY TOO EARLY in the series, WHETHER OR NOT I LIKED IT, I ACCEPTED that. I accepted casualties were likely if not bound to happen because of the premise of the show! It’s entitled Prison Break FOR GOD’S SAKE!
If Veronica, Abruzzi, Kellerman, D.B. Cooper, Tweener, and the rest of the casualties stayed dead, why can’t Sara?SORRY, if I’M NOT A FANATIC FAN of her!

6 - Sara was DEAD and she WASN’T COMING BACK…and NOW she is MAGICALLY ALIVE? So Gretchen is really NOT a sociopathic murderer, she’s A KITTEN?

7 - The Mahone line in the S3 Finale is a bit trivial, but DOESN’T MEAN she’s alive. Also, Sarah Wayne Callies SAID she’s NOT COMING BACK. SARA. IS. DEAD.
Bringing her back is the most RIDICULOUS decision the writers could have made and it is GOING TO RUIN the WHOLE CREDIBILITY of the show.

    Apr 7, 2008 at 6:25 am

You know I could sit here and list reasons to refute all of these claims from so-called prison break fans but I’ve done it so many times I’m sick of it. When it all comes down to it, I could care less how unhappy they are with the writers. I mean obviously I do care somewhat, but by now I’m just kinda like whatever. I love what the writers have done.

WOW some of you really need to CALM DOWN. I agree with a lot of you on here you all have really good points!!

At the end of the day, i’m a huge PB fan overall, not a huge fan of the misa thing! I’m more of an action girl, rather than a soppy love story! If they do decide to bring sara, back, then great, we’ll just have to all wait & see what they come up with. I have tonnes of faith in the writers, & i’m sure what they’re gonna do, is gonna great!

    Keep the faith peeps!!!!

i was devestated by saras death, i still watched the show but i missed her all the time, tv isnt supposed to be realistic - I’M OVERJOYED that SARAH’S COMING BACK!! I’m happy the writers decided to do this and i have faith they’ll do a great job writing her back in!

SHE (Sara) IS DEAD!!! GET OVER IT ALREADY!!!

Hey man calm down, ok ?
Your problem is lake of imagination !

The Company didn`t fake Sara`s death, man.

Sara made up to escape and she was pursuid by Gretchen and the Company guys, but somehow she managed to escape in a way they think she`s dead.

Example: she runnaway trought the forest and she claim up to a tree and stay there. There was a river nearby and she had trown some clothes in the river.
The guys of the Company think she tried to cross the river by swimming and she didn`t make it. She died in the river but there is no body to show to the Pad man.
Gretchen go`s to the morgue and brings a head of a dead woman and sended the head to Lincoln to show him that she killed Sara.
And yes, Lincoln is dumm enought to not recognized the head.

    Ahhahahahhah !

And LJ “was there, he heard it” .
This means he didn`t saw anything. This means he even might have not been in the same room, he might have been in the same house and heard … but not in the same room and SEING !

  • Sum
    Apr 7, 2008 at 3:15 pm

Ok, i have to say this, if Sara did escape why didnt she go to Linc?? i mean Linc is the tough guy wouldnt she feel safe around him. And plus if she did word would go to Michael that she is alive!!!, Also if she did escape WHYYYY didnt she take LJ with her?? isnt that slack to let him suffer and her be free?? All these questions need to be answered!!!
I personally dont like the fact she is returning, i think its stupid however, im looking forward to HOW they are going to do it. This generation of writeers are very talented and can do anything witht hat imaginated mind of theirs. But yeah.
Im not a Micahel/Sara fan, i just care about Sucre. I want to know how things plan out for hima nd Maricruz hahahahahah!

    Sum

In the first place I dont agree with you about the writers talent.
I`ve got myself much more talent than they do and I`m not a writer (ahahahahahh) !!! Just a joke !

    About the questions you put:
    - Why didn`t she get back to Linc ?
If she has reasons to think that the Company is convinced of her death (she run and made them think she`s dead in some short of an accident: drunn in the river, fell off a clif, jump into the sea …) is much better and much more inteligent not to show up for a while.
And she doesn`t now nothing about the head in the box, right ? She doesn`t now nothing all about how the story of her “death” is going to be told …

    - By no means she wouldn`t go to Michael. She knows he is at Sona and the Company is making blackmale with him about her and LJ. If she show up she expose hersellf and Michael. By not showing up she´s out of the Compapny`s hands and she`s no danger to Michael.

    - Why she didn`t tooke LJ with her ?
    Because se couldn`t.
She had a lot of trouble to run for her life. She was the one to being thread to be head off. She run for her life. LJ was safe (for the moment).
For LJ wasn`t danger at all. He remained the only hostedge so they would never kill him, otherwise they wouldn`t have nothing to blackmale the brothers anymore.

This is only one of the millions of possibles explanations …

    - Of course Lincoln could have know all the time that wasn`t Sara`s head … and he didn`t told …
And I could find one or two good reasons for that to …

  • Jasmin

I don’t think I’ve ever posted more than 1 comment per topic but the reactions in this forum could have been a lot worse. Consider the circumstances….

What we must understand is that this intentional writing was designed to surprise us later on in Season 3. I believe the strike cutting Season 3 short is what is forcing the writers of the series to leak the plot to it’s fans. Because Season 4 is so far away, we are being eased into this shocking truth through the media as opposed to watching it unfold soon after the airing of “The Art Of The Deal”. It is a shame that we have to find out about this character’s return between seasons. Sara’s return would have looked like a desperate attempt on the writers behalf if we found this out during one of next winter’s new episodes. Instead, we are finding out about her being alive weeks after Episode 13 aired because too much of a time lapse would change how the viewing audience would handle/interpret it. We were supposed to have known about Sara around this time of the year anyway. Too bad we will never know how Ms. Tancredi’s role could’ve shaped the intended cliffhanger in the REAL S.3 Ep.22 Season Finale.

Post Script: I hope that they use flashbacks to work Sara’s character back to life. More importantly with the explanation of how Gretchen got those scratches on her face or how they got Sara to scream while LJ conveniently closed his eyes. If the any of the writers are reading, please incorporate Gretchen’s compassion for female captors and translate it in an uncut Mosul flashback explaining why “Men are Pigs”. This could justify her mercy on Sara and explain what fueled Gretchen to put the hunting knife to the back of LJ’s neck to cut his head off when nobody was around for her to convince.

Nick?…Paul? Are you there? Please hire me, my current job is stunting the growth of my creativity.

Yes, we are excited! I can’t wait for the next season! Sara’s coming back makes me extremely happy! :)

  • It's Prison, Yo!

Sara is not coming back from the dead, because obviously that wasn’t HER head in the box. People, you’ve got to realize that the Company is capable of ANYTHING. If they wanted to convince Linc that was Sara’s head in the box, then they will. Didn’t they change Steadman’s appearance after faking his death?

I’m looking forward to seeing Michael’s reaction upon Sara being alive! She is the “key” to this whole story anyway. To kill her off in S3 was not the right for the story and I’m thrilled that the writers are bringing her back.

I’m SOOOOOO EXCITED to see Season 4!!!! BRING IT ON!!!!!

There’s no physical barriers anymore between them, but they’re both pretty banged up when they see each other, and it’s about how they get past that to really find that real intimacy.

So why she is banged about him?…is the Company told her ,that they have done something to Michael and she is looking revenge too???? and that why she haven´t dry to find Michael

OMG ! This forum has gone mad ! Why worry about the contuinity or realism of the story ? Don’t you guys trust there’s a group of most talented writers behind PRISON BREAK that has delivered the series become a hit like today ? Relax. I’m sure they’ll gonna create a great come back story for Dr. Sara Tancredi. Can’t wait to see her reunited with Michael ! I love them. One of the most great couples in series, besides Ross&Rachel from FRIENDS ;)

I mean everyone can’t be this dumb… For one, the writers for this show are all brilliant. I am pretty sure that they had this show well thought out b4 they had even aired Season 3. Lincoln as well as we the viewers got a glimpse of the head inside the box. It wasn’t even a full second. So please stop sayin that they are just tryin to make the show work again. This had to be all planned… They had to know that they would eventually work on a settlement with Sarah…
