Prison Break Buff

Prison Break Spin-Off - Female Prison

by Nikki on October 24th, 2007

In what I think is possibly the dumbest move ever, Fox is reportedly considering a spin-off of Prison Break.

Tentatively titled Prison Break: Cherry Hill the series would focus on Molly, an upper middle class wife who is serving a life sentence for acts of vengeance for her destroyed family. Molly is set to be introduced in Prison Break Season 3.

Fox has ordered a script of the possible spinoff, which is being written by “Prison” exec producer Matt Olmstead and co-exec producer Zack Estrin and produced by 20th Century Fox TV.

“There is an ironic similarity between Molly and Michael — they’re both emotionally banged-up, both have lost loved ones, and both want the people responsible to pay — so they empathize with each other,” Olmstead said. (Michael’s love interest Sara, played by Sarah Wayne Callies, was killed earlier this season.)

In “Cherry Hill,” which would have the same tone as “Prison,” Molly goes to a women’s detention facility fully accepting the life sentence for her acts of revenge until she is contacted by the government with information that some of her loved ones are alive.

“In a moment’s time, she is transformed from an unapologetic murderer to a motivated woman who would do anything to get out of prison and be with them,” said Olmstead, who is exec producing “Cherry Hill” with Estrin and “Prison” exec producer Dawn Parouse.

Olmstead and Parouse had been talking about developing a show set at a women’s prison for some time but had hit a roadblock — how to set up and launch such a show?

“Concurrent with that, on ‘Prison Break’ we wanted to introduce a mystery character who brings some clues to the table and with whom Michael and Lincoln work to uncover the big conspiracy,” Olmstead said. “The women’s prison idea folded into the idea of introducing that character, and once we combined them, it immediately popped for us.”

He approached Estrin with the idea, and he came on board right away.

A search is under way for an actress to play Molly. “Prison” producers will determine in which episode she will make her first appearance after casting the role.

If “Cherry Hill” doesn’t go forward, Molly will continue on “Prison” as a regular character.

The original show has wandered too far into absurdity for me to continue watching - and I tend to stick with shows until the end. Why ruin whatever good feeling is left from the stellar first season of PB with this knockoff??

I feel very bad for all the truly good actors stuck on PB now and for how their once-good show has wandered into total ridiculousness. And now we’re going to get the Chicks in Prison version? Give me a break.

Now, I MUST say, As much as I was trying to tell people to get over SWC’s character dead. (Which I still am telling people to get over Tancredi’s death)…
THAT SPIN-OFF SOUNDS REALLY CORNY AND RIDICULOUS.
I have yet to see how they can prove me wrong on that thought. I love Prison Break, but I think Spin offs are realy delicate moves, so far working for Grey’s anatomy with Private practice… but Prison break? Women prison???? Naaaaaaaaaaah…
Don’t see it working… I’ll just have to wait and see.

These guys are all deads and they even d`ont know it !!!

I`ve told you so … when you killed the Doctor you commited suicide.

Now is to late and nothing will save you from being all fired as you deserve.

I don’t think killing the Dr was suicide… there’s something about it that remains interesting in terms of the relationship of the bros.

Up until today, I was ready to accept the Molly character coming in at a certain point… MY TRUEST CONCERN IS THE SPIN OFF. TO ME, THE SPIN OFF IS DEFINITELY NOT THE MOST CLEVER WAY TO INTRODUCE that new character. I think it’s a waste of time to do it like that because the character of prison break that we got to close close with like Mike, Linc, Tbag, sara, mahone, LJ etc… we know them and we stick with them… I don’t want t have to watch another show JUST to get to know MOLLY…
I mean i didn’t have to watch another show to know Lechero and Sammi!!!!!
I actually now looking forward to get to know PAD MAN more. not another show with Molly… If i have to get to know Molly than bring her to the show and give me her story… i don’t need another show for that….

If they need ?(;-) to make a Spin Off, why not with a well established and favoured character like Mahone (or Kellerman) who would have a huge fan base already….? It´s a mystery…

Wow, after shooting and hacking their way through PB’s female leads, I dread to think what they would do to a prison full of women. Brrrrrr.

Are they crazy? If they’re gonna do a spin-off, they should give it 2 one of the main cast members.

    i’m thinking….
    why they killed the doctor?
is Sarah Wayne became upset (bcoz of Sara’s character made to die) so she do not want come back?

who’s take the responsible of this trouble?

first off i agree with IcEQeUb3z season 3 is already feeling like a spin off and secondly this is taking it way too far PB rules but this it just over the top, they are ruining what was a great show!!!!!!!!!!

I too agree with IcEQeUb3z, S3 ALREADY feels like a spin off. This is all about $$$$. Its very sad they ruined a great show. I hope all the actors in PB move on to better things.

TPTB at Prison Break really do need shave a few inches off their respectively egos and fix the show that they already have, rather than spreading their once admirable but now sadly questionable writing and plotting talents even thinner.

Man, I’m barely watching Prison Break anymore now - why on earth would I watch a spin-off series starring a female character who is, to me at least, nothing more than a thinly-disguised Sara replacement?

    Thanks, but I’ll pass.

I agree bad move. They did a long time ago with Party of 5 and it didn’t work and it rarley does. Also since we don’t Molly and most of us hate her alread, since she will eb Michael’s love interest, who want to watch her in a show. Also in some of the spoilers it seems like she is going to kill Susan B., is that who she is going to jail for. Again very weak. So sad PB used to be so good, now it more depressing than anything.

I am a huge friend of Prison Break but I don’t know if I’m eager to watch yet another tv show revolving around prison life. I too would be a little more interested if the spin-off revolves around “The Company” and Pad Man. Secondly, a spin-off from a show like Prison Break, which is pretty infamous for it’s nitty gritty tough environment should probably not be called “Cherry Hill”. Doesn’t that just sound more like a show about the trials and tribulations of summer camp counselors than about a women’s prison to you? That’s my 2 cents anyway.

I can’t believe how many of you people are still whining over Sarah’s death. In good, interesting shows, MAIN CHARACTERS DIE! Period. I still love the show, and it’s still doing decent work ratings wise. Most people do not feel the same way about Sarah as you do…
And besides, this is “The Company” were dealing with. Do you really think its impossible for her to MAYBE show up again in 2 years? As for Cherry Hill, I’m looking forward to it. I love spin offs.

prison break was the greatest show ever made now see the problem is there are now only bad stuff. what made this show so great was when something bad happened a sweet surprise came right after .now it’s just pure negativity and the creater paul sheuring is no longer directing this olmstien guy has run it to the ground sarah didn’t piss me off as bad as robin tunney’s (veronica) ok because she was in the pic long before sarah was even known what the hell is their problem????!!!!

  • I LOVE PRISON BREAK

i agree with most ppl. especially that comment about season 3 already feeling like a spin off. i really don’t think this cherry hill idea is going to work. I love prison break and i’m a really devoted fan, but the writers have already gone too far with the plots in season 3. and i just feel like they should wrap up all the storylines in season 4 and gracefully bow out and end the show during their success. Wentworth Miller thinks so and i agree with him. I say they should finish what they started, and finish it well, not get sidetracked with a spinoff that most porbably won’t do well…

Why can’t FOX just do the right thing by the fans?

First they kill of a very loved character.
Next they write a SPIN OFF.
Then they say Molly will be a love interest.

No wonder the ratings are dipping.. FOX is ignoring it’s viewers!
