Prison Break Buff

Prison Break Premiere a Ratings Disappointment

by Nikki on September 18th, 2007

Hmmm, this does not bode well for a Season 4… Not that any of the actors would be hard-pressed to find other gigs!!

At 7.9 million viewers, Monday night’s premiere of Prison Break was a ratings dud. Season Three’s opener was down approximately 2 million as compared to last year. Even reruns of How I Met Your Mother and The New Adventures of Old Christine fared better in the same time slot last night. Unfortunately, this slow start doesn’t bode well for the rest of Prison’s season. Come next Monday, the inmates will be facing stiff competition from Dancing With The Stars and a new episode of Mother.

2 opinions for Prison Break Premiere a Ratings Disappointment

Yea it does not do well for Prison Break seasons after the third season.

From my prospective the first two seasons was about Micheal and Lincoln escaping from all the legals troubles along with dealing with The Company issues. When the audience members found out that Lincoln was free from ALL the charges which in turn he will not be sentence to death, and Sara’s people will work on Micheal’s case to free him, it probably satisfy those watching it for that part of the storyline.

I even felt satisfy knowing Lincoln was free and possibly and most likely Micheal would be free too. Because of that, I almost didn’t want to watch the third season.

Putting Micheal in a Panamanian jail and having the scene of The Company talking about wanting Micheal in there to escape as a cliff hanger was catchy. Unfortunately, since there was a heavy focus on Micheal trying to free his brother from jail, people probably forgot or did not care about The Company. The audience probably just wanted to know if Lincoln and Micheal will be free from their charges.

Then again if the trailers didn’t focus on the escape, Prison Break might not be as popular as it is today, since escaping from jail sounds more appealing than a company that has political issues. So it is almost like a double edge sword.

It could also be competition from other shows or channels.

It all depends on what the audience likes and not likes.

Of course the only way we would know why the ratings went down is if Fox or those who deal with the publicity/public relations of Prison Break found out what happened by asking around and then tell us the result.

Rumor has it Fox is contemplating to cancel the show after the first 12 episodes (as the very first season was only intended) since the ratings have ultimately crashed for a powerful timeslot.
