Lane Garrison Expected to Plead Guilty

by Nikki Katz on May 20th, 2007

Lane Garrison is expected to plead guilty Monday to charges stemming from the drunken driving death of a Beverly Hills High School student.

“We will be entering a guilty plea to some of the charges,” said his attorney, Harland Braun.

Garrison, 26, will be present at the arraignment in Beverly Hills Superior Court, Braun said.

He is charged with vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving in connection with the death of 17-year-old Vahagn Setian.

Setian was a passenger in the 2001 Land Rover that Garrison was driving when it struck a tree in the 300 block of South Beverly Drive Dec. 2.

Three of Garrison’s passengers were taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where Setian died. The two other passengers, both 15-year-old girls, survived.

Garrison had a blood-alcohol content of .20 percent, more than twice the legal limit, and was under the influence of cocaine, according to police.

“(Garrison) is scheduled to be arraigned and our understanding is he is expected to enter a plea to the judge,” said Jane Robison of the District Attorney’s Office.

Braun has said Garrison is “going to accept responsibility for his conduct. The only question is what is that level of responsibility.”

If he pleads guilty to the charges he is facing, Garrison could face a maximum of six years and eight months in prison.

“The sentence is going to be completely up to the judge,” Braun said April 11.

Along with a felony charge of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, Garrison is accused of two felony DUI counts and a misdemeanor count of furnishing alcohol to a minor. He is free in lieu of $100,000 bail.
